What's with The Name?

“Hold The Line” is a phrase that is commonly used in the world of law enforcement. It is used as an encouragement to brothers and sisters in the LE community to hold the “thin blue line” that separates the good from the bad, the everyday citizen from the violent lawbreakers. The phrase has purpose and significance to me, but maybe not in the way you would think.
It is true that my time in law enforcement was an important period in my life, and it’s much of the knowledge, skills, and mindset gained during those years that influenced me to begin training. However, “Hold The Line Training” isn’t only a nod to my background. For me, the more weighty influence comes from the Bible.
In Ezekiel 22 in the Old Testament, the Lord is accounting the sins of His people and their evil deeds. In verse 30 He says, “And I sought for a man among them who should build up the wall and stand in the breach before me for the land, that I should not destroy it, but I found none.”
The Lord was looking for a man to stand in the breach - to be the one to stand against the evil… but no one would stand. Everyone was too concerned with living for themselves and their own happiness.
The motivation for Hold The Line Training is not simply to help you become physically and mentally capable of standing in the breach against violent crimes committed in your area of influence, although that is part of it. The bigger aim is to equip you to stand in the breach against evil as a whole. Which (spoiler alert) we can’t do in our own strength.
My ultimate goal is to point you to Jesus. He is the Son of God - fully God and fully man. Rather than staying in a place of judgment against mankind, God became one of us and lived a perfect life without sin. Because of his life without sin, He became legally able to become the sacrifice for our sins. When Jesus died on the cross 2,000 years ago, He not only suffered physical pain. He also carried our sin and took our punishment that we rightfully deserve. Jesus stood in the breach for us.
More than this, He rose from the grave and conquered death once and for all. He is alive today and wants to have a relationship with you. It’s only by His power in us that we are able to stand effectively.
That is the reason for “Hold The Line Training”. It’s an encouragement to turn to Christ and allow Him to build you into a warrior capable of standing in the breach.
So, through Him I will…
Be a warrior
Stand in the breach
Hold the line
