Where Do I Start?

I wonder sometimes where you, the reader, will be in life when you read this post. It can be difficult to communicate in a way that speaks to all ranges of men and women who want to take actionable steps toward becoming a protector of life and a defender of truth.

In this post, I want to speak directly to the person who may feel overwhelmed. Perhaps you esteem the idea of proficiency in firearms, hand-to-hand combat, legal knowledge, mental preparedness, ad infinitum. I can certainly relate.

However, If you’re like me, it’s hard to know where to prioritize your time, effort, and resources. With a full time job, a wife, four kids, and a commitment to a local church body, what area of training should I focus on?

If you do struggle with this like I do, it can be easy to spend far too long debating and not enough time doing. In short, my advice to you is this - Do what you can, when you can. Just shifting your mindset from needing to develop a perfect plan to taking action will be invaluable.

Now, am I saying that you shouldn’t make plans and be structured with your time and money? Not at all. I am saying that if you wait for conditions to be perfect before you start making improvements, it is likely that you will never start. Here’s a way you can be proactive with planning and turn it into action.

Ok I admit, that last point was a shameless plug. But I think you get the idea. And here’s the thing. Your first goal doesn’t have to be something that’s going to cost you a lot of time and money to accomplish. Maybe your firearm goal can be to implement dry fire drills, and you want to set other goals to increase your knowledge of Colorado self-defense laws. That costs you nothing other than some time.

Do what you can, when you can. Be strategic and make plans, but don’t wait for your plan to be perfect before you start to execute.
